This is a photoblog for Easter the Hedgehog. We are very proud of her and want to show her off. If you want to learn more about pet hedgehogs, please do a lot of research. They are very unique and wonderful and require care different than any other animal.

Hedgehogs occasionally perform a ritual called anointing. When the animal encounters a new scent, it will lick and bite the source, then form a scented froth in its mouth and paste it on its spines with its tongue. The specific purpose of this ritual is unknown, but some experts believe anointing camouflages the hedgehog with the new scent of the area and provides a possible poison or source of infection to predators poked by their spines. Anointing is sometimes also called anting because of a similar behavior in birds.
I am interested in getting a hedgehog.I was wondering if it was
safe for them to run around my apartment,and If they would still be litter box trained.Please let me know if anyone has done this,and also where their hedgehog slept,and how they introduced it to running around after being in a cage.
